MYCELIUM LIBRARY

Design with Nature Studio

pv1.png

The Mycelium Library is a multi-generational library that caters to people of all ages. The concept of this library is inspired by the mycelium network, an underground network of fungal threads that expands through the growth of hyphae.

The main feature of this library is the multiple ramps around and within the building, which are all interconnected. These ramps allow people of different age groups to access various zones. Additionally, the floor plan was created from a voronoi diagram pattern with the impression to replicate the mycelium network

Voronoi Diagram Pattern

A Voronoi Diagram is a way of dividing a plane into different regions based on the distance to a specific set of point

These different regions represent different zones/ programs in the library

These zones are connected to replicate the idea of the mycelium network system with varying heights

DESIGN PROCESS

Step 1) Voronoi diagram base
Step 2) Adding grids & control points
Step 3) Shaping the form of the ramps through connecting the grids and control points with varying heights
Step 4) Adding massing & spaces within the ramps
Step 5) Finishing touches of spaces, together with a Voronoi diagram facade
